5 Ways To Seek Adventure At Home

5 Ways To Seek Adventure At Home

Let's be honest, the luxury of traveling is not financially available to all of us at any moment. As much as I've wanted to travel to New York, Miami, and Hawaii, there just hasn't been an opportunity where I could make the numbers work in my favor. However, there is always adventure to be found in your own backyard. I present to you, 5 ways to always seek adventure!

1. Explore the Outdoors

Growing up, my concept of playing was running around outside. Growing up in Arizona, being outside meant withstanding temperatures up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit praying you wouldn't melt into a puddle of sweat. Although a lot of the country may know Arizona as being completely covered in desert, there are plenty of locations great for camping, climbing, caving, hiking, and exploring. Surprisingly, I never knew how many natural wonders Arizona had until I came upon them as an adult in "100 Places to Visit Before You Die" lists - Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Havasupai Falls, anyone?

Sometimes adventure isn't about a destination, but the journey. Corny, I know, but there is always so much to discover about yourself! For a Saturday afternoon, turn off your GPS, switch your phone to the "do not disturb" setting you always wondered about, fill up your gas tank, and drive. Drive until something captures your eye (or until your playlist runs out of those songs you sing/shout) and then stop. Maybe you'll just enjoy the scenery, you'll take a picture, write a note in your phone, and head back home, but chances are you will feel like you got to enjoy being with yourself and sometimes we need to be reminded of how awesome we are.

While I wouldn't say that Sedona is neighboring Phoenix (wouldn't that be a nice, quick drive), there is always the potential to discover new things in a city near you. Whether you enjoy museums, aquariums, national forests, or botanical gardens there will usually be a place near you that can offer you adventure without having to travel out-of-state!

4. Join/Create Specialized Groups

If your thing is photography, there are typically various groups of photographers who meet to discuss techniques, share work, and offer advice. Often times, regardless of your hobby or interest, there are people that have created these communities to foster support, creativity, and collaboration with one another, which will offer adventure constantly!

5. Remain Open-Minded

The thing about adventure it tends to be unexpected. At any time, in any place there is a chance for hidden adventure, you just have to be open to discovering it!
